Nova Beach
Funday
Beach sports 4 all
sorts
Thanks for joining us at our Nova Beach Funday on Sunday 10
February. It was a perfect day to hit the beach. Olympic Gold Medallist
Natalie Cook joined in the fun and was the host for the day.
The Club was a hive of activity as everyone frantically
accumulated points at different activities. Participants were challenged
with the WAECO stubby holder throw, Keema have a crack at Nat (beach
volleyball serve at Nat's head! - well pics of it), Qld Roar penalty shot,
Fitness First sand course, Wahu touch pass and Qld Firebirds shoot for
goal.
Congratulations to the top five activity winners -
Rhiannon Cooper, Kurt Ryan, Kiel Faulkner, Damien, and Colin Pearson who
all took home fabulous prizes from Wahu and Sandstorm. Rhiannon and Kurt
both received a WAECO TMF-15S (15 Litre Personal Refrigerator)
and overall winner Rhiannon was also awarded a 6-month Fitness First
membership.
The pre-registration prize went to Nichola Aitcheson - a
WAECO TMF-18G (18 Litre Personal Refrigerator).
Everyone was treated to a display of our Autumn season beach
sports and soon discovered how much fun it is to play beach sports.
Highlights included:
-
Exhibition beach netball match: Olympic
Gold Medallist Natalie Cook swapped her bikini for a netball skirt and
teamed up with the Sandstorm "All Sorts" going head to head in a
game of beach netball against former Australian Netball Team Captain
Vicki Wilson and players from the Queensland Firebirds. It was a great
display of beach netball and competition was tight. Scores were level
with 2 minutes to go. Vicki Wilson and the Qld Firebirds got there
in the end winning 8 goals to 6. Well done girls.
-
Mascot Sand Fitness challenge: It was
game on as Qld Roar's "Roary", Fitness First's "Mr Muscle" and
Sandstorm's Natalie Cook (dressed as a licorice all sort) were put
through their paces by our resident physical trainer, Mel West. Mascots
and handlers enjoyed a total sand fitness workout. Roary and
Mr Muscle were neck and neck until Roary was called back to complete his
star jumps. Mr Muscle proved to be every bit muscle and sprinted across
the finish line the victor. More action took place at the finish line as
Roary tackled Mr Muscle.
-
Exhibition beach volleyball game: What
a treat! Some of Qld's top beach volleyballers displayed their
awesome skills. Robyn Bertram and Steve Lade took on Grayson
Ravenswood and Belinda Hawthorne.
A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on the
day, the Nova Sandies and to everyone who joined in the beach sports
action.

At Sandstorm Beach Club we have beach sports for all sorts.
